default mail protocols on user objects
Let me begin by saying I'm not an Exchange administrator so please forgive my
blunderings.
----------------
I've inherited an environment where Exchange 2003 on AD 2003 is fully
deployed. The Exchange servers have the IMAP and POP3 services set to
disabled to prevent users from being able to use IMAP4 and POP3 clients. The
'Exchange Features' on each user object show OWA, POP3 and IMAP4 enabled, and
new user accounts have this setting by default (as well, all the mobile
services are enabled).

I need to accomplish two tasks:
1. modify the base AD class for users so that new objects are created with
all the 'Exchange Features' not enabled by default.
2. update all existing user objects in the directory to disable all
currently enabled services and protocols except for OWA.

Once completed I will then be able to re-enable the IMAP services in the
Exchange environment, and give granular IMAP4 access to selected users (my
Linux development team) by enabling the protocol on the specific user object.

1. I am comfortable with vbscripting to ADSI so if someone can point me to
examples relevant to modifying the existing user objects, specifically the
attribute names and types and flags/values to set for disabling them, it
would be greatly appreciated.

2. Pointers to where, what class, that would need to be modified, say with
ADSIEdit(?), or where to find the necessary background information to learn a
better, more supported or best practices based, I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you.
Michael
