Hi, I have created a mailbox enabled user object in AD. Is there a limit to the number of SMTP Addresses I can attach to that user object in AD ? Would it be possible to attach thousands of e-mail addresses to one mailbox this way? I am not looking for alternative options, I would like to know the answer to exactly the above question. ;-) Thanks in advance!
Probably not. All systems have their limitations. The limitation you will probably run in to is the maximum amount of data that particular attribute in Active Directory (the proxyAddresses) attribute. I have a user in one of my Exchange organizations with about 40 SMTP addresses on it. And that is about as far as I have taken it. I have never seen any research or postings on this. I'm sure there is a limit up there somewhere, it might be 41 addresses, it might be 1041, but I'll bet there is a limit. With a little bit of time, I'm betting you can figure this one out for yourself by creating a test mailbox and adding SMTP addresses until you hit the limit. There may be a smaller limit in Exchange but from the backend store viewpoint, in 2K AD your limit would be about ~850 addresses. In K3 AD your limit would be around ~1300. joe -- Joe Richards Microsoft MVP Windows Server Directory Services www.joeware.net H. wrote: > Hi, > > I have created a mailbox enabled user object in AD.
