Hi I am trying to use exmerge to extract a pst file for one of the mailboxes. It says failure at the end but does end up creating a small pst file. The log file says something about not being able to access. I am logged in as administrator. One peculiar thing is that I am exporting mailbox listed as A but the pst file being created is called B.pst. The user/mailbox B existed although not being used as user had left. I deleted user/mailbox B but still no luck, exmerge still creates B.pst. What is the problem and how can I get the mailbox exported to pst? Thanks Regards

Did you grant Emerge to have permission to the mailbox? Instructions on giving permissions for Emerge here. http://www.petri.co.il/grant_full_mailbox_rights_on_exchange_2000_2003.htm Instructions on using Emerge here. http://www.petri.co.il/brick_level_backup_of_mailboxes_by_using_exmerge.htm Does that help? It could be a permissions issue. Try this link the information may help. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292509 "John" wrote in message news:eralpkVYIHA.4208@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Hi > > I am trying to use exmerge to extract a pst file for one of the mailboxes. > It says failure at the end but does end up creating a small pst file. If you are running Exchange 2003, the default setting would Deny Domain Admins access to the mailbox so you are better off creating a normal user account and giving it the appropriate rights according to the articles already described. As for the names of the files, they are based on the mailnickname attribute of the user account. See what that attribute is set to for the account you are trying to export. Also check the legacyExchangeDN value, the portion on the very right, should be the mailnickname, but i've seen cases where it doesn't match, resulting in strange filenames. I had the same problem... had the mailbox been moved? Try this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824126 or: http://www.petri.co.il/restoring-exchange-2003-mailboxes-exchange-2007-exmerge.htm You need to check the msExchOrigMDB attribute for the Recovery storage group and modify it to match the storage group of where the mailbox is now. This was a problem for me even though I was only doing the first extract stage and I was seeing exactly what you are seeing. Doing this fixed it. Good luck.
