Exchange 2007 PerfMon counters
Hi,

I'm trying to achieve the following: Average Daily E-mail traffic (sent and
received), and Average Message size.

Current stats aren't going to work so I started logging everything into a
CSV file (in yyyymmdd format) so I can grab a daily log and take a look at
my stats. I've also set the sample to be taken every 1 second. I guess I'm
basically confused on the Instances I'm presented with for each counter.
For example:

Object: MSExchangeTransport SmtpReceive
Counter: Messages Received Total
Instances: _total, client SERVERNAME, default SERVERNAME, allowed relayers

My guess is I'm supposed to be looking at the "default SERVERNAME" instance,
right? But this is only showing me this:

Last: 5
Avg: 5
Min: 5
Max: 5

This can't be accurate? Has anyone done this? We're an organization with
400+ E-mail accounts. Should I be taking the sample at greater intervals
vs. 1 second?

Any input welcome!

Why don't you use the message tracking logfiles?

Thanks for the Reply.

I haven't really used that. How would I obtain this info? By using the
Troubleshooting assistant? If so, how exactly? I'm not seeing where I can
do this.
