I have a question about the Usage Reports I get from Exchange Server 2003. The E-mail counts seem high for a number of our users. For instance, the internal e-mail sent for a certain user would be over 1000 for a 2 week period...about 100 for a given work day. That person might only send 10-15 e-mails a day. What is the server counting? Is it related to rules, distribution lists, personal folders, etc. or is there some kind of trojan loose? We use Avast anti-virus corporate... Is there a log on the server that would show me a list of all 1000 e-mails? Thanks
I did more research and found http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=867457 which says there is a bug before SP1 of SBS. But I have the latest SP, so I did some more testing and looking at logs. It seems if spam is received that is spoofing the e-mail address of someone in the organization, that person is credited with the e-mail count. So I guess the Usage Reports are more usefull for identifying who is being spoofed the most!
