Exchange Migration Time Estimate
I'm doing a migration from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 and will be using
the Exchange Migration tool on the 2003 box. The 2000 mailbox store is about
12GB, does anyone know how long it will take to migrate this amount of data?
Both systems will be on the same physical network.

Also, does the Exchange Migration tool bring over the mailbox info as well
as the user info from active directory? (i.e. profile path, home folder path,
group membership)

Thanks for any help provided, I really appreciate it.

RE: Exchange Migration Time Estimate
This depends on a few factors.

How fast is your connection to the new server?

A rough estimate is 4GIG per hour.

You may be able to reduce the size of the database depending on how much
whitespace you have. Have a look in your event logs for these events:

Event: 1221
Source: MSExchangeIS Private
Type: Information
Category: General
Description: The database has nnn megabytes of free space after online
defragmentation has terminated.

Event: 1221
Source: MSExchangeIS Public
Type: Information
Category: General
Description: The database has nnn megabytes of free space after online
defragmentation has terminated

You may be able to reduce the size of the database and then do the
migration, this should make the migration much faster depending upon how much
free space is freed up

Re: Exchange Migration Time Estimate
Hi,

Exchange migration tools only migrates mailbox data. All user info is part
of active directory data and must be migrated from here.

If you are migrating from ex2000 to ex2003 in the same domain there is no AD
data to migrate as you can use the same Ad for both servers (and there is no
need to use migration wizard - use move mailbox).
