Notes Migration to an Exchange Resource Forest
Hi,

We are plannign to migrate a couple of lotus notes servers to a new pristine
Exchange 2003 environment. We plan to use the new notes connectors as well as
the Quest/Wingra migration tool.

We have a couple of issues pertaining to a few things.

Firstly, because of the pristine state of the domain which Exchange is on,
there are no user accounts. Will the user accounts be populated by the notes
connector or the Exchange Migration Wizard?

Second question is, at which point will the newly created windows accounts
be mailbox enabled? is it via the notes connector or migration wizard?

lastly, how are the passwords going to be generated for the newly created
users? I understand that the Exchange migration wizard can generate passwords
randomly or use the user's login name as the password. But since we are using
the Quest tool, we do not plan to use the migration wizard. Only the
connectors will be used. Is there a way to give the newly created users their
new passwords to Exchange?

One thing I forgot to mention is that the users are currently in their own
seperate AD forest and no trusts are planned between this and the Exchange
forest, so we'll need to give them new passwords for mail. (they are ok with
authenticating twice)

Can anyone help on this? Many thanks in advance!!

Re: Notes Migration to an Exchange Resource Forest
The answer to your first question is, yes, the Notes Connector can create
user accounts. by default, it creates mail-enabled contacts, but you can
tell it to create user accounts instead. I think the passwords are randomly
generated and written to a file, but I would have to test that.

Normally, the accounts are "mailbox enabled" by the Migration Wizard, but if
you are using the Quest Notes Migrator tool, one of the options is to
mailbox enable the user accounts. The Quest tool is good, but practice,
practice, practice. It might take some tuning for your environment. I just
finished a Notes "migraine". Here is my ramblings about it, if you are
interested.

Re: Notes Migration to an Exchange Resource Forest
Hi Jim,

Many thanks for answering. We have decided to generate some random passwords
for users via VBScript instead.

On another note, I would like to find out fomr you if you have any idea if
the notes connector supports connections to a Lotus Domino on AIX? All I can
dig out from the KB articles are that the pre-requisites for the Domino
version, not the OS it's running on. Am I to assume the notes connector can
connect to Domino on both AIX and Windows? Would appreciate if you have some
links to official stuff on this. I have given up trying to search for it.
Many thanks.
