Exchange Interoperability and Migration Guide
I am planning a migration from Novell Groupwise to Exchange 2003 (in an
SBS2003 server). I have downloaded and started to read to Interoperability
and Migration Guide. As with so much Microsoft documentation, there is a
lot of reading to be done on this topic!

Can anyone tell me if this tool is reasonably reliable and straightforward
to use?

For example, I know that a previous version required the Groupwise API
gateway be installed, but I am not seeing this requirement now. Is it no
longer required?

Also, do I need to create a so-called "Migration Server"? Couldn't I just
install the Netware client and the Groupwise 5.2.5 client on the target
Exchange server and run the migration that way? It seems like a lot of
extra effort to create even a minimal migration server to migrate just 12
mailboxes...

Any input would be appreciated.

Re: Exchange Interoperability and Migration Guide
Hi,

You don't need to install the Groupwise API. This is for coexsistance
between the mailsystems and since you only have 12 mailboxes I assume that
you move everything in one step.

I prefer to install a dedicated migration server (you don't need to install
Exchange server - only exchange system manager) because I like to keep the
exchange server as clean as possible. If you install Novell client,
Groupwise etc on this server you have a lot of unknown variables to deal
with later.

Re: Exchange Interoperability and Migration Guide
Thanks for your reply.

I find the Exchange Interoperability and Migration Guide, at 335 pages, to
be an extremely long document, and since I want to migrate (no
interoperability required) I tend to try to just read the parts pertaining
to Migration. However, it seems as though the migration instructions assume
you have already set up interoperability, and this is where I am finding
myself thinking I need to do things that aren't reqauired for a straight
migration (like installing the GroupWsie API).

Has Microsoft prepared a document that explains only the steps required to
do a small migration like I am describing? While I believe the
Interoperability and Migration Guide contains a great deal of useful
information, it seems kind of crazy to read 3 or 4 hours worth of
documentation to learn how to do a one hour job!

I appreciate your reply, and look forward to the next one.

Thanks,

Rob P.

Re: Exchange Interoperability and Migration Guide
Hi,

I haven't found such a document - sorry. If you install workstation with the
groupwise client, Novell client, Outlook and exchange system manager you
should be able to go directly to the migration pages in the document.
