My goal is to export all users' contact lists from an Exchange server to PST files. Exmerge ought to be the perfect tool, but so far I cannot get it to run. I follow the wizard through the step where I select the information store without a problem. When it comes to the step where it ought to list the mailboxes I get an error: "Error encountered getting mailbox information from the private information store database(s) on server 'server-name'. Make sure you have adequate permissions on the Information Store object." In ExMerge.log I see the error: [09:32:47] Error opening message store (EMS). Verify that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and that you have the correct permissions to log on. - 0x8004011d ( (CMapiSession::GetMailboxesOnServer)) I have tried the steps listed in KB articles 322312 and 327000, which suggest a permissions problem. I have domain admin permissions including "send as" and "receive as" permissions on the IS and each user. I have verified this using ADSIEdit to view effective permissions. Also I am not in any group that is explicitly denied the necessary permissions (Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins). At this point I really don't see how this can be a permissions issue. I also attempted running Exmerge with the anti-virus software software disabled, which obviously did not help. I need either help to get Exmerge working or suggestions for another method to accomplish my goal of exporting contacts.
I found it necessary to have the same service pack level of the ESM on EXmerge machine as the Exchange Server I was targeting. -- /kj "Ben Taratoot" wrote in message news:7D48BD9D-0C03-48C2-AF59-8940BBD1EF26@microsoft.com... > My goal is to export all users' contact lists from an Exchange server to > PST > files. Good idea. How do I update System Manager? I tried running the service pack on my management station but it would not let me select the management tools. I think it said something to the effect (I'm not at work now) of I could not install an older version. Check the SP of the server you are targeting and the verison of ESM that you have installed. Well this is just weird and frustrating. I followed your tip and it actually worked - once. I was able to export a mailbox the first time. I tried it a second time just to demonstrate it to my coworker and (embarrassingly) it failed. The only thing that changed was I ran Outlook to check what version of PST file Exmerge creates. I tried deleting my mail profile and then my Windows profile. Neither one helped. Jeesh, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has had 'strangeness' with exmerge lately. Exmerge install locks down the exmerge directory for the user that installs it. It uses the old 2GB limited pst files. -- /kj "Ben Taratoot" wrote in message news:9FD62C89-32B5-4D47-BC55-C4E49FD1F283@microsoft.com... > Well this is just weird and frustrating. I figured it out. I removed Outlook and now it seems to be working like a champ. I know that you can't run Outlook on an Exchange server, but I did not know that is also true for Exchange System Manager and/or Exmerge.
