I have already put four Exchange 2007 SP1 servers into production (two mailbox/hub transport, one client access and one unified messaging) and have been moving mailboxes in the evenings. I need to install only the Management Tools on a Windows 2003 Server (SP1) for a utility we use. After installing all the prerequisites, I run setup only to get the following error: Summary: 2 item(s). 1 succeeded, 1 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:14 Management Tools Prerequisites Completed Elapsed Time: 00:00:10 Organization Prerequisites Failed Error: Setup needs to contact the Active Directory schema master but this computer is not in the same Active Directory site as the schema master ([schema master]). Recommended Action: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=30939&l=en&v=ExBPA.3&id=2376fec1-b9ce-44db-beb6-cb9ac4788988 Error: Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory: Exchange organization-level objects have not been created, and setup cannot create them because the local computer is not in the same domain and site as the schema master. Run setup with the /prepareAD parameter on a computer in the domain wylieisd and site [schema master], and wait for replication to complete. Clearly, the schema has already been extended. It seems ridiculous that this server would have to be physically in the same site as the schema master - especially to install only the ESM. Any ideas?
Did anyone ever find an answer to this? No - and equally as unfortunate is that I did not come back and update the resolution. It turns out that we had a mixup on the installation media and my production Exchange servers were really RTM, not SP1, and I was trying to install the ESM from SP1 media. After re-running the scheme extension (and, aside, upgrading my four production servers) under SP1, we were able to install Exchange 2007 SP1 ESM. Go figure! :-)
Thank you for checking. I appreciate your following up on this!
