Is there anyway to have an exchange mailbox created and have the ability to send an email sent to it go to an external address as opposed to the local address or directly to the mailbox? I am trying to develop a migration plan for my POP users... Thanks! JR
Yes, using delivery options in recipient properties, you can forward to a Contact or mail-enabled user. You can also create a user and mail-enable it (populate the external address) instead of mailbox-enabling it (creating an Exchange mailbox). -- Bharat Suneja Microsoft Corporation blog: exchangepedia.com/blog This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. However, I suggest you get everyone off of POP and onto RPC over HTTP instead.
Thank you for the quick reply...I think I may have confused everyone or I am not understanding your explanation. My exchange server is up and running with 30 users (not using POP) I have to move another 60 users off of a hosted POP email server and move them to my exchange server. I would like to set up their exchange mailbox ahead of time so I can get them all connected before killing the hosted pop service. Problem is as soon as I create a box for them any email sent through the GAL goes directly to the exchange box instead of the external SMTP address I added and set to primary. My guess is when using the GAL it uses X400 instead of SMTP? Is there a way around this? Thanks! - That's the default behaviour - if a recipient exists in AD/Exchange Org, Exchange will deliver to it. - Are you using the same SMTP address space (and sharing it between your hosted and on-premise server)? - Assuming your server will start receiving inbound internet mail before you make the switch.. you can provide these users access to the mailbox using OWA/POP/IMAP/RPC over HTTPS/MAPI when you make the switch. -- Bharat Suneja Microsoft Corporation blog: exchangepedia.com/blog This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
