Installing Exchange Server 2003 Ent version
HI to all the pros out there,

I need to install exchange Server 2003 Ent version in Windows Server 2003 Ent
(brand new installation).
But the thing is that, After I have installed windows Server 2003 Ent SP2,
and i put the Exchange Server 2003 Ent CD in, the error msg stating that the
version of windows Server 2003 Ent SP2 is have Some issues with Exchange
Server 2003 ENT version.

After that it have selection "Continue, Cancel," i click on Continue, it will
come to a window showing the installation part where it have a drop-down Box
"Action "selection for "typical", "Minimum" or "Custom"
when i pick on "Typical", it have an error msg showing that :-

---------------------------
Microsoft Exchange Installation Wizard
---------------------------
Multiple components cannot be assigned the requested action(s) because:

 - Setup encountered an error while trying to contact the Windows Active
Directory. The error was:

  - Failed to contact the Schema Master server for this Active Directory
forest.

 - You must be logged on to a Windows domain instead of the local machine

The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services"
cannot be assigned the action "Install" because:

 - The NNTP component of Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is
either not installed or disabled

 - The SMTP component of Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is
either not installed or disabled
---------------------------
Click OK
---------------------------

I logged in with Local, does that means i need to create an account in PDC
for exchange server? (will normal User account will do?)

and may i know what is Exchange Server Deployment tool?
this "deployment tool" is for After Exchange Server Installation? or Before?
because in Exchange Server Deployemnt tool, there are lots of prerequisites
like DCDiag and NetDiag which when i dunno how to run it, and ForestPrep and
DomainPrep as well.

Currently in this company, we are still using Lotus Notes, and the company
director want us to change to Exchange Server. but right now, we are still
using Lotus Notes for daily email, while i try to join this Exchange to the
domain.

If i install Exchange Server and join the domain, will it effect Lotus Notes?

Really having a hard time right now, Appreciate for the time you spend on
replying this thread.

thanks in advance.

Regards,
Vince

Re: Installing Exchange Server 2003 Ent version
It sounds to me like you have done none of the prerequisites for the
installation.
The deployment tool may help you with some of that. It will guide you
through the installation.
Start here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125074.aspx
and here
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124295(EXCHG.65).aspx

Use the deployment tool.
And as for the compatibility warning, blow by and and when you are done with
the install, download and install SP2.

You need to be logged in with the domain admin account. You need schema
update rights so use the administrator account which should have what you
need. No local logons.

Re: Installing Exchange Server 2003 Ent version
Hi Martin,

have ran dcpromo and installed Active Directory and join the current Domain,
Ran ForestPrep and DomainPrep as well.

the installation is done now. exchange server is installed.
thanks.

now i need to migrate from Lotus Notes to Exchange Server.
Read some migration tool called "Exchange Server Migration Wizard", have
tried to migrate, have some issue to worry about.

currently the Lotus Notes is still Working, and everyone using it right now,
if I've to run Migration wizard to migrate data from Lotus Note Server to
Exchange, would this process effect Lotus Notes Server Not usable anymore? I
mean after migrated to Exchange Server, Lotus NOte Data will be wipe off, or
something like that?

thanks in advance

Re: Installing Exchange Server 2003 Ent version
Hi,

thanks for the link,

i have read through it, because this Exchange Server actually associated with
Primary Domain Controller. There are currently have Domain User in it.

I have tried to go to current exist User (which created earlier by PDC) and
click on properties, it doesn't have any email, or exchange server tab to
configure.
so, i test try to create a new user from Exchange Server, and named it vince,
this vince account actually have exchange mail server tab in it where I can
configure mail server for this vince account.

but i cant just delete the current existing user in Domain and re-create new
one, can I?
Don't that will mess up the domain user login?
or that is actually any other way to "make" the current existing Domain User
to somehow associate with exchange server?

thanks!

and i need to
