What are mobile options with Exchange 2007?
We are considering moving from GroupWise to Exchange 2007.

What are the options for accessing email, calendar etc from a mobile phone?

I know Exchange 2007 has ActiveSync to push emails etc to a mobile phone,
but I was wondering what happens with attachments. If attachments are sent
to the phone this would be very costly for us.

Are there other ways of accessing emails, for example WAP?

Thank you for any assistance.

Re: What are mobile options with Exchange 2007?
Exchange 2007 removes support for Outlook Mobile Access (OMA).

However, Exchange ActiveSync on Exchange Server 2007 has enhanced policies
that you can deploy. With a policy you can control a bunch of settings,
including attachments. You can apply policy settings to one user or all
users as well as have different policies for different users. Through
policies you can prevent attachments from being downloaded to the device.

Your other option would be configuring Exchange 2007 for POP3 or IMAP4
access. However, you wouldn't get the granular level of control that you can
achieve through Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policies. For more information
about the policy settings you can control, see the following document in the
Exchange 2007 help file: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/bb123783.aspx

Re: What are mobile options with Exchange 2007?
Patricia,

Thinking about this a little further (& excluding POP3 or IMPA4 access)
presumably this means that in order to view emails etc from their mobile
phone, our users must have smartphones. Does ActiveSync only work with
Windows Mobile software?

Re: What are mobile options with Exchange 2007?
Exchange ActiveSync works with Windows Mobile (for both PocketPC based
devices and Smartphone based devices). There are a number of non-Windows
Mobile devices that support Exchange ActiveSync as well.

The new Palm devices (the Treo 680 I believe) do support Exchange
ActiveSync. There are also devices from Nokia, Sony Ericcson, Motorola, and
Symbian that offer anywhere from limited to full Exchange ActiveSync
support. See this link for more details:
