Exchange 2003 server remote sync windows mobile 5
I originally posted this to the pocketpc.activesync newsgroup, but am
not getting a response. Maybe this group has an idea.
I am having a hard time getting my Cingular 8125 to sync mail over
GPRS. I'll explain what I have done so far:
The 8125 was originally set up to sync with my workstation, but I
didn't choose email items as one of the sync options. I later added
the exchange server, and selected email in its sync options. When I
connect via a USB cable, everything works fine - although I have to
make sure the mail server name is mailsvr.internaldomainname.

When I change the mail server name to mailsvr.mycompanydomainname.com
and try to connect over GPRS I get the following error:
ActiveSync encountered network problems or an internal server error
while synchronizing
Support code 0x85010016

Not a lot produced by google for that support code, and what is doesn't
really help.

At the exchange server, I have enabled both Outlook Mobile Access and
unsupported devices in the Mobile Services properties. My userid has
the correct permissions. In Mobile Services, I've tried adding a
carrier, not sure what the SMTP domain should be though - I've tried
several different ones that I've seen in my internet searches.

Does IIS have to be restarted after these changes?

The servername is correct, its the same servername that we use to
access exchange over the internet
(https://mailsvr.mycompanydomainname.com/exchange , I use
mailsvr.mycompanydomainname.com for the servername on the mobile
device). The cert is valid.

I'm at a loss. If anyone has any suggestions, or if this needs to be
in another newsgroup, I will appreciate any advice. Thanks.

What I would do is remove all profiles from the phone. ActiveSync,
Exchange, etc. Reboot the phone (pin switch on the side does the
trick). And then only add back the Exchange connection via the GPRS
connection directly to your server. Don't connect the phone to the
local system via USB or Bluetooth.

Watch your web and system event logs and see if you get any type of
authentication errors, etc.

Hope that helps.
