AKU 2, MSFP, EX2003-SP2 - Remote Wipe Problem
So...we finally got a few of our phones updated with AKU 2.0x.
Being the curious admin I am, I wanted to test the remote wipe features,
which were supposed to finally work when the MSFP was installed on the WM5
devices (odd that at TechEd last year, they seemed to say that it was just
the combination of WM5 and SP2, but I digress).
So, I open up the mobileadmin tool, which I installed on one of my FE's.
Look up MY mailbox, and viola, there's a device listed; synced in the last 5
minutes as well.
I click the wipe link....and wait....and the page times out.
I sync up my WM5+MSFP device again, and it works great, 3 new emails, and a
new item in my calendar.
I refresh the mobileadmin page, and lookup my mailbox again....it's there;
synced less than 2 minutes ago now.
I still want to see the remote wipe function in action, so, I once again,
click the wipe link....the page once again times out. I'm thinking "I know
this worked before any of the phones had AKU 2 on them....we tried it the
day we got these phones"
I send myself an email, and sync my WM5 device AGAIN....the email shows up.
I decide to try the page from my laptop instead of my workstation; again
looking up my mailbox, and noticing a sync time of less than 2 minutes ago.
This time, I just try deleting the partnership, just to ensure that my WM5
will throw the typical errors the next time it tries to sync, and force me
to resync a few times.
I'm prompted to confirm the delete request (and click "yes") and then wait
about 5 minutes before syncing again.
5 minutes later, I attempt to sync my WM5...error - you need to resync (I'm
thinking "good sign")
I wait a minute, and sync again, I get the following prompt "Exchange server
<servername> must enforce security policies on your device to continue
synchronizing. Do you want to continue?" not ever having seen this notice
before, and being in a curious mood already, I opt to allow it, after
hitting cancel does nothing twice.
my WM5 wipes; all the way back to factory settings. Really cool...the
first time.
Here's the problem...it's stuck in a wipe-loop. As soon as I try to setup
Exchange again (bearing in mind that its essentially a new phone after I
allow exchange to impose the security settings) I'm prompted to wipe it
again.
I've looked up my mailbox in mobileadmin, and there are no devices listed.
Anyone have any ideas about cancelling a wipe on a device that's been
deleted?
Sorry about the long post, but it was the only way the situation might make
sense.

Re: AKU 2, MSFP, EX2003-SP2 - Remote Wipe Problem
I believe because you deleted the device that now the last action you had
selected "wipe" is now the only action that exchange will do. I know that
you need to see the device so that you can clear the wipe command, i'm
wondering if one of the othe exchange activesync tools will work. I'll
check around and see what I can find. I remember when I tested out the
remote wipe feature I forgot to toggle it back off and on the next sync it
wiped the device again. There should be a way to reset that device setting
if it has been removed from the account.

Re: AKU 2, MSFP, EX2003-SP2 - Remote Wipe Problem
Yeah, I know that it will continue to wipe until "cancel wipe" is chosen,
but, as I said, it (mobileadmin) doesn't even see the device. Oddly, I
tried setting up one of my test accounts, and Exchange let it connect just
fine, so it's not tied exclusively to the device, but the combination of the
dev id and the user id.
Let me know what you find.
