We are using Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2003 clients. We don't have problems sending to other outside domains like gmail or hotmail. It also seems like Outlook 2003 is bouncing the email before it even tries to send it to the Exchange server. The email domain we're trying to send to is not on our blocked list. Below is the error message. You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator. <mail.ourcompany.com #5.7.1 smtp;501 5.7.1 This system is not configured to relay mail from to for xx.xx.xx.xx> Any ideas?
Is Outlook configured to send via SMTP, as when using POP or IMAP? -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . Outlook 2003 is setup to use Microsoft Exchange Server, which uses SMTP to send mail. We have POP and IMAP disabled.
Hi, Sounds like your mail server is on the reciving servers blocklist. Have you checked with their admin?? Is your Exchange Server configured to send SMTP mail to a smart host? Is the NDR you're describing happening with all recipient domains or just one? -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . Being on the receiving server's blocklist was the first thing I thought of, but the bounceback email is so quick; normally when we're on a blocklist, the email doesn't bounceback that quickly. Also, looking at the error message, it looks like our email server is not allowing us to send to that domain, because our email server is referenced in the error message. Any other thoughts?
Our Exchange server is not setup to send SMTP to a smart host. The NDR is just happening for one domain.
You might contact the postmaster of that domain. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." .
