Large Mailboxes (migrating to 2007)
We are looking to migrate/upgrade/move to Exchange 2007
I have been chosen to research/plan/design/deploy this solution.

During my research (at my current employment of a short period of time); I
have come across, what I believe to be some enormous numbers. We are a small
financial institution with about 75 users/mailboxes.

I have found that about half of these mailboxes have more than 7000 items.
and of those many have more than 10,000 and a few up to 77,000 items.
Some of the mailboxes are in the average of the 2 to 3gb range but some up
to the 7 to 8gb range. the current Exchange policies are, well (NONE) no
limits no size limits whatsoever.

We are running out of disk space which we are trying to address on a short
term track, however we will be going to move to 2007.

I know size and item count have been floating around the internet with users
asking what is too much, some of my questions relate to this, but here goes.

Q1. Are these "Large" mailboxes really too large?
Q2. Will these large mailboxes cause problems during there move to a new box
Q3. We want to institute limits on the new box; what will happen to
mailboxes that are already larger than the new limits?

Any comments would be greatful

Re: Large Mailboxes (migrating to 2007)
1- Size of the mailbox is not as relevant as the number of items per folder.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905803

2- I wouldn't expect them to cause any problems during the move other than
the fact they may take a long time. A long time.

3- Any limits imposed will apply to those mailboxes. Suggestion here, either
get the mailboxes cleaned up now and them impose the limits or do it after
the move and don't impose the limits until then.
