Exchange 2007 and Office Communications Server 2007 on Same Machin
I have an exchange 2007 server. I would like to install Office
communications Server 2007 onto this machine. On past attempts, after
installing office communications server my exchange server client access role
gets messed up and I cannot get OCS to work at all.

Is it possible to install these on the same machine, or do i need to create
a dedicated server for this?

thanks.

IIRC you do need a different server. No doubt someone will point you
to a decent link (as I'm on the end of some ropey bandwidth) but I
wouldn't even try it as OCS does like its resources.

Re: Exchange 2007 and Office Communications Server 2007 on Same Ma
it is a fairly small operation (5 people)

do you think that we will still need a lot of recources?

Re: Exchange 2007 and Office Communications Server 2007 on Same Ma
Doesn't matter how few you have, it uses a good chunk just to get
going in the morning. Kinda like me and tea. 5, 10, 50, 100 users
don't mean much, it's all the base load which is none too lenient on
the old box. Just get more kit. If you want to run it, run it
properly.

Re: Exchange 2007 and Office Communications Server 2007 on Same Ma
Hello,

Thank you for your post.

My name is Robbin Meng, and it is my pleasure to work with you on this
issue!

Please allow me to confirm that my understandings are correct. As I
understand it, the issue is:

You would like to know if you can install OCS 2007 on the same server with
Exchange 2007 installed.

If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know.

Since I am Exchange newsgroup technical engineer, I am not very familiar
with OCS 2007 deployment, however, based on experience and research, I
strongly do not recommend you to install OCS on Exchange server as the
mediation server role from OCS 2007 cannot be on the same server because it
uses those specific ports etc. Moreover, Exchange server 2007 is a
sensitive server for system resource, otherwise it may possibly cause heavy
workload or perforce issues and server no responding etc. potential
problems.

For more information, please check the below articles:

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me
know.

Thank you for your time and cooperation!

Best regards,

Robbin Meng(MSFT)
