Odd situation I've never seen before. New SBS2003R2 standard system installed. Exchange configured and tests okay. Then suddenly message transport stops working. Only discovered because incoming/outgoing messages not appearing. Outlook clients stills connected to Exchange and OWA still works/connects via HTTP but messages relayed from SMTP don't show up in exchange mail boxes and messages cued from Exchange are not delivered (either internally or externally). Could still connect to ESMTP service via telnet from outside and send message which were queued for delivery but never showed up in Exchange. Tried to restart Exchange Information Store and it would not manually restart, had to reboot at which point system began to function normally. Troubling part is SMTP connector shows no messages in que (again confirmed it was receiving them via telnet externally). Where did these messages go? Any idea what would cause this? This is worse than a total crash as external messages get queued but not delivered. TIA.

The connector wouldn't - this would be in your virtual SMTP server or queues. > Where > did these messages go? Any idea what would cause this? If you run any third party software (Exchange antivirus/content filtering) disable it for testing.
