Private appointments in public calendar
Hello.
I'm using Exchange 2003 on SBS 2003 and 2003 Outlook clients.
Is it possible to create a private appointment in a public calendar?
The answer appears to be "no", since the "Private" checkbox is grayed
out. I've tried tweaking permissions with no luck.
The reason I want to do this is because one or more users want to be
able to show free/busy info on the public calendar, but not what they
are doing, necessarily.
I've also tried sharing a personal calendar. This method works -- to a
degree. The problem here is that only the owner can read and change
private appointments. Interestingly, others can set a private
appointment on the shared calendar, but once set even the author of
the appointment can't read it, only the owner of the calendar. This
behavior is evident even when granting full permissions to the other
users.
Taken a step further: does anyone know a way to create even finer-
grained control in that any user can set an appointment private and
delegate other users the ability to read the appointment, even though
it is private (a secretary, for instance)? I've tried assigning a user
as a delegate and clicking the "Delegate can see my private items"
checkbox, but no love there.
Thanks in advance for you help.

You're correct.

You can do this in a mailbox, but not in a public calendar.
