PF usage much too high
Hello!

Recently we installed an Exchange Server 2007 with SP1 and SP1-Rollup 1 on a
Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64 Standard Edition. There´s 2 GB of RAM and a
swap-file with 2.0 - 4.0GB. After a reboot of the server the PF usage is
about 1.5GB, what seems to be quite normal for me. But step by step it rises
up to more than 3GB and more(at the moment it´s on 3.2GB), so it uses the
swap file and the server becomes very slow.

It´s a HP Proliant ML350 G5 with Quadcore Xeon E5345 (2.33GHz) with RAID 1
for the system-disk (160GB SATA-RAID), a single disk for data (also
Exchange-Storagegroups) with 500GB and another single disk for other purposes
(like putting backups there). The swap-file is located on thi
"other-purpose"-disk, which is not used otherwise during the day.

I know that Exchange 2007 uses almost all of RAM for caching and releases it
instantly when requested by another application, but that´s not the case
here, because harddisk-space is used!

This is what the taskmanager shows (top 11 VM-occupiers):
Image Name: Mem Usage, VM size
store.exe: 58.940K, 581.924K
sqlservr.exe: 259.566K, 351.896K
EdgeTransport.exe: 118.608K, 252.156K
w3wp.exe: 124.352K, 141.298K
Microsoft.Exchange.ServiceHost.exe: 65.468K, 127.056K
w3wp.exe: 64.256K, 113.200K
MSExchangeTransportLogSearch.exe: 44.788K, 103.744K
Microsoft.Exchange.EdgeSyncSvc.exe: 29.936K, 80.712K
BackupAssistService.exe: 49.764K, 75.248K
svchost.exe: 96.136K, 62.052K

The cpu usage is rarely above 20%. Most of the time it's like 0-6% usage
with an occasional jump above this if processes are running on the server.

The server is a single domaincontroller and the Exchangeserver has all roles
except EdgeTransport (but why occurs EdgeTransport than in the tasklist???).
Now at the beginning of our Exchange-"exercises" there are just a few
mailboxes (3 at the moment) with just a handful of messages in them.

Also WSUS 3 and an Antivirus-solution (NOD32 v3.0) and the whole bunch of
Management-software from Hewlett-Packard is installed, but WSUS doesn´t work
at the moment (but this problem was there before Exchange-installation).

We didn´t have this memory problem before the installation of Exchange, the
memory occupied was always under 1GB.

The Application log shows the following messages

The server was restarted at 16:37, 03.04.2008.

I´m new to the subject Excahnge Server (although I read a lot about the
basics of Exchange, the installation and configuration), so please give
advices in "simple words" ;-)

Is there anybody who can help me in this situation?

Re: PF usage much too high
Have you sized your RAM correctly in correspondance with the number of
Storage Groups you are using and user profiling?

Re: PF usage much too high
Note if you have enabled LCR also this again requires more ram.
