My Problem: i have been asked to setup exchange for a small group of about 15 initial users My setup: Server 03 SP2 My Question: I just need a breif on what exchange is... EG: is it an application i can just install and run from the same hardware as my Domain Controller
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Exchange_Server It is an application that will need to be installed on a server. It requires Active Directory, however it is advised not to install it on a domain controller. Before you take this one, get some books on the product and do some research. Its not as simple as setup.exe and ready to go. Martin many thanks about the setup.exe i know its not that simple. I just wondered if i could run it off the Domain controller because its a server with max 100 users and ive setup the rest they are just missing exchange/mail and i have no idea under the sun about thanks very much :) "Stuart_t" wrote: > My Problem: i have been asked to setup exchange for a small group of about 15 > initial users > My setup: Server 03 SP2 > > My Question: I just need a breif on what exchange is... Like I said, a domain controller is a poor choice. In Exchange 2003 it is not a supported configuration. In 2007 it is supported but still frowned upon. What I would do is take a look at this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124518.aspx This is the storage configuration guide. This is where if not done properly you will run into performance issues. If you want, you can post the configuration of the system you plan to use and we will give you input. Hello Martin, What do you mean by " In Exchange 2003 it > is not a supported configuration." Martin Blackstone [MVP] wrote: > Like I said, a domain controller is a poor choice. You might want to investigate Microsoft Small Business Server, which targets companies the size you're describing. SBS includes Exchange Server and is somewhat easier for you to set up and manage. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." .
