NLB Cas and using nodes as hubs
Morning all,

Is there any reason if you have 2 servers in a NLB cluster for the CAS role
why the two under laying nodes can not also have the hub roles as well.

I've just never seen any scenarios where this is done and I would like to
put the hub roles on as well as a backup for standalone hub in the
organisation.

Cheers

Hi,

You can have both the HT and CAS roles installed on the same server.

However only NLB CAS Services (POP,IMAP,OWA etc). You should not NLB the
default recieve connector of the HT role. There are built in mechanisms to
load balance between HT servers already.

You can however NLB the Client connector, and any other custom connectors
you create.

Re: NLB Cas and using nodes as hubs
Sorry i must not of been clear. On a NLB pair of cas servers. Can you also
install the hub role to work off the base nodes.

I have a hub role in the site already and a nlb pair of cas servers but i
want to have the hub role installed on the pair of cas servers as opposed to
buying a additional server.

I understand the hub role has HA by having two in a site and the nlb cas
servers dont have much utilization so it would be a waste to put another
server in for another hub if the hub role works correctly with the nlb cas
servers

Hi there,

You must have missed my first line from my original reply.

'You can have both the HT and CAS roles installed on the same server.'
