2007 Using SCR between to SCC clusters
Morning,

Just a quick query to get some clarification if SCR can be used between two
SCC clusters.

I know a lot designs are using CCR for the sources for a little more
protection on the database side of things and to cut down on storage costs
as well as backup of the passive node, but i already have a large SAN
backend at both sites that will be reused.

I have a read a fair bit of documentation but i can't see anything that is
really clear about using a SCC cluster as the destination. The environments
DR site is a mirror of production that is designed to be able to permanently
become production.

Thanks

Hi there,

Your SCR target and source can be an SCC cluster yes.

However the target cannot have the active mailbox role installed, it must be
the passive role. In the event of DR you would use the /recovercms switch to
bring the cms online at your other location.

Re: 2007 Using SCR between to SCC clusters
Hi,

Actually, the answer is No. An Exchange cluster becomes SCC or CCR when a
clustered mailbox server (CMS) is added, thereby creating the active node.
An SCR target that is a cluster cannot contain any active nodes in the
cluster; therefore it can be neither SCC nor CCR. It can only be what we
call a 'standby cluster' which is a failover cluster with only passive nodes
and the passive Mailbox role.

Hope this helps.
