We are designing a new Exchange 2007 system with CCR and two load balanced (NLB) CAS/HUB servers. I know that HUB-servers are load balanced automatically, but installed together with CAS they will use NLB as well. I have a feeling that putting the file share witness on this CAS/HUB NLB cluster won't work. Am I right?

Am I right? i coulnd't find a short notice about but i'm quite sure you can't use the cluster ip / name as file share witness. (based on the assumption you can't predict which node is servicing the request and the CCR Nodes can have different cluster states on two different hubs...) there is an artikel linked describing the feature of FSW and how to host it on a HUB with the possibility to "failover" this share in case of a CCR / Site failure and loss of the primary hub responsible for the share. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676490(EXCHG.80).aspx BG Christoph -- If you dont want the milk to get sour...keep it in the cow

Exclude port 25 from NLB and just use NLB for CAS load balancing. > I have a feeling that putting the file share witness on this CAS/HUB NLB > cluster won't work. Am I right? It will work. Just use one of the servers in the NLB pair as per a single server. For fault tolerance, create a CNAME record for the witness and, if you lose the first server in the NLB pair, just change the CNAME to point to the surviving server. -- Neil Hobson Exchange MVP http://www.msexchange.org/Neil_Hobson/
