I have a windows 2000 AD domain and Windows 2000 Exchange org. I plan to move to a Windows 2003 domain and Windows 2003 Exchange org. Requirements 1. change the Active directory domain to new name 2. Keep the same smtp email domain for new exchange org 3. Perform migration in stages Can someone point me to 2-3 different migration approaches using same or different hardware? Web links would be great Thank you, John
Upgrade DCs to 2003. Use Domain Rename. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/downloads/winsrvr/domainrename.mspx This may help: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=842116 -- Bharat Suneja MCSE, MCT www.zenprise.com blog: www.suneja.com/blog ----------------------------------------- "John" wrote in message news:FAC37607-1E77-4D43-B10E-21C877F1ADF3@microsoft.com... >I have a windows 2000 AD domain and Windows 2000 Exchange org. > > I plan to move to a Windows 2003 domain and Windows 2003 Exchange org. > > Requirements > 1. change the Active directory domain to new name > 2. Great info thank you How about if I were to migrate and use a different SMTP Domain for Exchange? SMTP domains can be added/removed quite easily to Exchange. You setup Recipient Policy for the domain. Recipient Policy tells Exchange it should receive email for a particular domain and generates email addresses. https://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/guides/E2k3TransnRouting/bf94f67e-6ecc-4c57-85de-3a502432d655.mspx -- Bharat Suneja MCSE, MCT www.zenprise.com blog: www.suneja.com/blog ----------------------------------------- "John" wrote in message news:2FB05B05-8AFF-412A-B02A-173231EDA37A@microsoft.com... > Great info thank you > > How about if I were to migrate and use a different SMTP Domain for > Exchange? > > Kind regards, > > John > > "John" wrote: > >> I have a windows 2000 AD domain and Windows 2000 Exchange org. >> >> I plan to move to a Windows 2003 domain and Windows 2003 Exchange org. >> >> Requirements >> 1. change the Active directory domain to new name >> 2. Be sure to remember that you'll need to also upgrade to Exchange 2003 to support the domain rename. I have to admit though, a domain rename seems like a pretty worthless thing since only your company users would likely see that information. Is it really that important to justify the work?
