Mail routing in a co-existing environment, any suggestions much appreciated
Hi,

We have a new exchange server and are currently performing a
co-existance

When I test sending emails to my hotmail from the new exchange server,
the reply address is correct, that is myname@ourdomain.co.uk

Our users are complaining that sometimes the reply address comes
through as myname@exchange.ourdomain.co.uk. I am assuming that this
symptom is coming from the fact that the users notes addresses in
exchange are &m@exchange (myname@exchange) but this does not occur on
all systems (only a few, the majority have correct reply address.

We tried to get BT (our ISP management service) to add an MX record to
accept emails addressed to user@exchange.ourdomain.co.uk), they added
an a record for this but either way when the external users do try to
reply (to myname@exchange.ourdomain.co.uk) the mail is rejected as
looping. I think this looping only occurs on the relays (trend imss) as
no internal ip addresses are mentioned and no looping messages are show
in the mail tracking on exchange.

The failure report is listed below

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software
(Exim).

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es)
failed:

  auser@exchange.ourdomain.co.uk
