SMTP server inbound connections
Hi, I have problem with inbound connection on SMTP virtual server on
Exchange 2003,
I make Port Forwarding from public IP to local from port 25 to 25 , when use
telnet from Internet to SMTP server, i get message with code 220 (connection
success) but with ***** ( 220 *************) and other commands is with
message 500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command..
If I change port forwarding ( for example 255 to 25 ) everything is OK.
If I change on SMTP virtual server port from 25 on for example to 255 and
make again port forwarding Public IP port 255 to local IP and port 255
everything is OK.
I try turn off FW and SPI again no working.
And telnet from local network working
Can somebody help me?

Do you have a Cisco PIX? turn off MailGuard.

Odd, because the (***** ( 220 *************) looks awfully Pix-ish. The
problem has to be something in your router or an upstream one. If you telnet
on port 25 within your LAN I'll bet you don't have these problems, right?

I wouldn't change ports on the vsmtp server (or anything else) unless
absolutely necessary.

Re: SMTP server inbound connections
Yes, I think so.
Because if I change public port to other and local leave the same (255 to
25 )
telnet working fine.
And within my network is it without problem.
So I mean that my FW testing protokol SMTP and changing data stream and
than Exchange can not read the packets
Many Thanks

Petr

Something's funky in your firewall/router, I'd say.
