Microsoft Information Store Service Could Not Start
I have within the network, two servers; one is a SBS 2003 and the other a
Linux StanOS. I recently moved DNS and exchange mail from the SBS 2003 to
Linux StanOS server. The Linux box is now set up as a Proxy, DNS and mail
server in one with an address of 192.168.16.201 and gateway of
192.168.16.200. The mail was set for all users to pop their mails from the
Linux server, however there was a problem few emails were received and few
were send out.
I then reconfigured and moved mail exchange server on SBS 2003 again. The
Linux mail box service was stopped leaving only the DNS and Proxy service
running.
The SBS 2003 server is on IP address 192.168.16.2 and gateway
192.168.16.200. The DNS on this server is pointing to the Linux box,
192.168.16.201. After reconfiguring the exchange 2003 on the SBS 2003 server,
the Microsoft Information Store Service can not start, automatically or
manually. I restart the server couple of times but still the same. The error
message appears as “Could not start Microsoft Information Service on local
computer, Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control
request in a timely fashion”. The Exchange System Attendant service has
already started. The event logs can not point so much straight to the problem
and by goggling it was not much of help.
I have used "eseutil /mh, /g" to check the consistency, integrity and it is
clean. I tried to do the restore from the good backup but was not able to as
exchange server name was not found. I tried a system state restore but still
exchange was down.
Finally I did a reinstall of exchange 2003 on the server but the still the
same.
I have not yet done the un-install and re-installing of the exchange server.
Please are there any options, utilities or fixes that I still have not yet
done, please help.

Re: Microsoft Information Store Service Could Not Start
The DNS Server on the SBS 2003 must point to itself and it must run DNS
Service for Exchange and SBS run properly.
