Activesync not working with Exchange 2007 SP1
My users cannot connect: So I I have tried to replicate the exchange 2003
settings in IIS. But it doesnt make any difference. Now I am worried I might
have screwed the pooch - so to say. OWA works fine and these devices already
have the correct SSL cert installed on them.

All I see in the logs are

I have gone into ISS in the VirtualDirectory for Activesync -
I removed require SSL authentication. -
Anonymous authentication is also disabled -
Ignoring Client Certificats IS enabled -
Basic Authentication is enabled -
Default domain as mydomain.com in the field
After restarting IIS - Exchange MC reflects the changes as SSL Enabled is
Set to FALSE
I put in my external url - mail.mydomain.com
do i need to have /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync like I do
on the internal URL?

RE: Activesync not working with Exchange 2007 SP1
Hello Customer,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you unable to do
ActiveSync to Exchange 2007. If I have misunderstood the problem, please
don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to narrow down
this issue:

1. What error do you get on your mobile device?

2. Please try to use any different mobile device to do the ActiveSync to
Exchange. Does it success?

3. If Anti-virus scanning the MetaBase and corrupted it may cause the
issue.

Backup your IIS from within the IIS Manager so that you can revert your
changes if needed. Delete ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory and recreate it by
using following steps.

1) Back up your IIS metabase. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Start IIS Manager.
b. Right-click Default Web Site, point to All Tasks, and then click Save
Configuration to a File.
c. In the Save Configuration to a File dialog box, type a configuration
name in the File name input box, and then click OK.

2) Delete and recreate the virtual directory ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory. To
do this, use the Exchange Management Shell.
a. Remove-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory -Identity "Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
(Default Web Site)" this will delete the virtual directory
b. New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory this will create a new ActiveSync virtual
directory in the default web site.

Additional information:
How To Troubleshoot Server ActiveSync
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=330461

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
help me collect some information for further investigation:

1. For further test, please temporarily disable SSL or send me the root
certificate if you enable it for ActiveSync; create a new test account and
let me know the following information.

- Credential of this test account
- The public URL of your Exchange Server
- Domain name

I will access the mailbox by ActiveSync in my side to verify the issue. To
keep these confidential, please let me know by mail: v-terliu@microsoft.com

2. Please collect the IIS log, IIS Meatabase and MPS report on Exchange
Server for research

Steps to collect IIS log
=============

a). On Exchange Serves, open IIS MMC, right click Default Web Site and then
click Properties.

b). Click Website tab and then check Enable logging.

c). Stop the Default Website and RENAME the existing IIS log files under
C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1.

d). Restart the Default Website and reproduce the problem, which will
generate new IIS log file with the exact error.

e). Wait for a while so that IIS Log can be synced. And then go to the
following folder on Exchange Server: C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC1.

f). Send me the log files to my working email address
v-terliu@microsoft.com And please let me know the alias of the user who
encountered the issue.

Steps to collect IIS configuration file
===============

1. Click Start->All Programs->Administrative Tools and then click Internet
Information Servers (IIS) Manager

2. Expand Websites, right click the Default Web Site, choose "All Tasks"
and then click "Save Configuration to a File"

3. Input a file name like "DefaultWebSite", choose Path and click OK

4. Then find the file DefaultWebSite.xml and compress it. Then send it to
me at v-xxx@microsoft.com

Steps to collect MPS report
=================

a) Download MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE from the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=cebf3c7c-7ca5-408f-
88b7-f9c79b7306c0&displaylang=en

b) Double-click the executable file to start the report gathering tool, and
then accept the end-user licensing agreement (EULA). Note Please be patient
while MPS Reports collects data. The tool may appear to stop responding
(hang) because it may take from five to 15 minutes to collect the data.

c)> The tool creates a CAB file named "%COMPUTERNAME%_MPSReports_.CAB" in
the %systemroot%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\Cab folder. The CAB file contains
the reports that the MPS Reporting Tool generated. If the tool does not
create the CAB file, copy all the files in the
%systemroot%\MPSReport\Setup\Reports folder to a compressed (zipped) file.
Note The %systemroot% folder is the folder where you installed the
operating system. By default, this is the C:\WINDOWS folder.

d) Send me the CAB file or the compressed (zipped) file at:
v-terliu@microsoft.com

For more information, please refer to the following article:

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

In our case it was Symantec AntiVirus.
