I'm currently finally cutting our organization over to exchange 2003 and eliminating the last 5.5 server acting as the existing smtp connector. Using KB883407 as a guide I'm hitting a wall on step 2 of the second section. The old server is not detecting the new 2003 connector even after replication has been done on both boxes and rebooted as well. Now what is happening is the old server is still accepting inbound mail and passing it to the 2003 server but the 2003 server is not sending any mail outbound. When I proceed with step 3 to see if 5.5 shows the new connector as well, it doesn't appear in the window. Because the new connector isn't showing on the 5.5 box and mail is not leaving the 2003 box (either to the 5.5 or the internet) I am a bit nervous to carry on and delete the connector on the 5.5 box as suggest in the following steps. I can still go back to the old way and try again another time....I think. Has anyone got any advice, even should I be bold and hope that continuing will mean only one smtp connector on the new box and I won't be fired when my 250 users can not send mail outbound?
