When a person is sending a message to an e-mail address with a domain name which don't have an mx-record the, message is queued in Exchange 2003 and the system periodically tries to resend the message. After 4 hours the sender gets a "Delivery Status Notification (Delay)". The system will continue to retry sending the message. In Exchange System Manager I can find the message in "Servers | Servername | Queues". In this window there is a queue for the domain which the message can not be delivered to. By double-clicking the queue and press the button "Find Now" I can find information about the message. In this list you can find "Time Submitted", "Time Received by server" and "Time Expires". The "Time Expires" is 2 day after the message was sent. (In properties for "Servers | Servername | Protocols | SMTP | Default SMTP Virtual Server" in tab "Delivery" the local "Expiration timeout" is set to 2 days) I had expected a "none delivery message" sent to the sender after 2 days, but the message is received 12 days after, even though the message in the queue has "Expiration timeout" after 2 days. Currently I have a message in my Exchange server with "Expiration timeout" yesterday, but the sender has not yet got a non Delivery Status Notification. Question: What can be done to get a non delivery message when "Expiration timeout" is reach? Any suggestions are welcome Harald
