Moving Existing Exchange install a cluster
I have a single Exchange 2003 server that I would like to move to a cluster
setup with a second machine to allow for fail over. The private information
store has already been moved to a SAN. Is there a Microsoft article which
outlines the steps to migrate over to a cluster environment?

Thanks

Re: Moving Existing Exchange install a cluster
- There isn't (afaik) because you cannot move a standalone/non-clustered
Exchange server to a cluster.
- Cluster service has to be configured *before* installing Exchange on a
server. Exchange is cluster-aware and needs to install correctly in a
clustered environment.

You can start cluster formation using the server that will function as the
second node.
1. Form cluster with single node.
2. Install Exchange and any service packs.
3. Create an Exchange Virtual Server (EVS).
4. Move mailboxes, replicate public folders, etc.
5. Uninstall Exchange from standalone server.(depending on whether the
server was first Exchange server in AG, and if it's responsible for
inbound/outbound internet mail, there may be additional steps to follow
before removing it).
6. (Optional) Reinstall OS, rename computer if required, add to domain
7. Add as second node to cluster
8. Install Exchange and any service packs.

You can try it in a lab environment using Microsoft Virtual Server:
