Re: What kind of down time will I have Clustering my Exchange 2003 Enterprise Server ?
- Assuming you want to implement either CCR or SCC cluster-- you can't add
an existing Exchange Server to a cluster (or create a new cluster from an
existing server) without removing Exchange Server 2007.
- The recommended solution for site resilience is SCR. You can use SCR with
clustered/non-clustered source Exchange servers, and replicate Storage
Groups to clustered/non-clustered (SCR) targets. This does not involve any
down time.
- However, SCR does not provide "failover" from source to target, unlike
clusters. SCR targets need to be activated manually. Generally speaking,
it's a good idea to have manual intervention and let an administrator decide
to activate a remote site/server. If that's your goal, SCR will work.
- If not, and you're considering setting up CCR - using Windows Server 2008
Failover Clustering is recommended because of its ability to span IP
subnets. (Both subnets have to be associated with the same AD Site).
