Hello, Is it possible to run both SQL and Exchange on a MS Cluster environment? We're considering purchasing a new SQL Cluster (Active/Active) and are now wondering if we could also move our Exchange environment to it as well? Thanks, Troy

If I'd taken leave of my senses I'd think about it for about 3 seconds. No more than that though.
They are both heavy resourvce consumers. Although it's possible, I wouldn't do it. What if we were talking about a company that has 75 (TOTAL) light mailbox users and even fewer SQL users? It's WAAAAY overkill, but the company has some money to spent to ensure SQL up-time and would like to take full advantage of the hardware. Is there any documentation from MS on doing this? Try this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997379(EXCHG.80).aspx Like the others said I wouldn't advise it. Exchange 2007 will not run on a cluster with SQL. Exchange 2003 will, but it is not recommended at all. -- Russ Kaufmann MVP - Windows Server - Clustering ClusterHelp.com, a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner Web http://www.clusterhelp.com Blog http://msmvps.com/clusterhelp The next ClusterHelp class is: May 12-15 in New York
Does a SQL 2003 Cluster require a separate server and File Share Witness like Exchange ? ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =----

However, assuming it was a typo, the answer is that it does require its own cluster because you can't put it on the same cluster as Exchange Server 2007. SQL, is not like Exchange Server 2007, though, in that SQL does not provide its own replication mechanism that will allow similar behavior. For SQL, you will need a shared storage environment to hold the databases and the transaction logs. -- Russ Kaufmann MVP - Windows Server - Clustering ClusterHelp.com, a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner Web http://www.clusterhelp.com Blog http://msmvps.com/clusterhelp The next ClusterHelp class is: May 12-15 in New York
