Exchange 2007 DR
Hi,

Our production Exchange 2007 is configured with one Active/Passive Mailbox
Server Single Copy Cluster (2 nodes) and a pair of Exchange 2007 Client
Access/Hub Transport Servers for Outlook Web Access.

I am in the planning stages of designing DR site for exchange using SCR. For
this purpose i am implementing a test domain with two sites. Site A will
mimic my production exchange architecture and site B will be my DR site. At
the DR site i will have a DC and an exchange server which will be my mailbox
server/Hub transport/Client Access.

Will this scenarion works?

Once i have my test environment i will be testing the SCR functionality to
fail over and failback. Could you please provide with some documents on how
to configure the SCR portion and test the failover and failback.

Also i have two scenarios one is partial destruction and Total destruction.
In the partial assume my SAN where the mailboxes reside is completely down.
At this point how will my users connect to the email.

Next scenario is My datacenter is completely down except the internet
connection. At this stage how will my users connect to the exchange.

Please advise.

Yes, that's what it's designed for.

Note, SCR does not use MSCS/Failover Clustering by itself. There are no
failovers or failbacks as in a clustered environment. You replicate Storage
Groups from the SCR source server to the SCR destination server. It is
designed to be used as a last-resort (or almost last-resort) option. SCR
targets need to be "activated". If you are in a clustered environment
(source clustered, SCR target can also be a single-node cluster) - you can
use /RecoverCMS to quickly restore the CMS on the SCR target. If the source
or destination are not clustered, you can use /RecoverServer, but a longer
process that requires either Exchange to be uninstalled from the target or
another server used.

The other option is to use Database Portability to mount the Database on
another server, and use Move-Mailbox -ConfigOnly to point users to the new
server that has the DB mounted.

In case of SCC, your data is lost. Activate the SCR target or rely on
third-party solutions with SCC that provide data/storage redundancy (if in
place). Outlook 2007 clients automatically discover new location of mailbox.

Activate the SCR target.

Re: Exchange 2007 DR
My SCR target in the DR site will be acting as Mailbox/Hub/Client access all
in one box. In that case how do i activate when the primary site goes down?

Also how will i bring back to the primary site when it is back up. I mean
replicate back to the orginal exchange server.

Please advise.

Re: Exchange 2007 DR
Hi,

I used database portability to activate the SCR target. I successfully
mounted the database in the SCR target Exchange standalone server. Now i am
trying to follow the same procedure to replicate back to my orginal server.

My orginal server is SCC in a two node active passive cluster
configuration. I deleted the Storage group and database which was in the
orginal exchange srever. When i enable the SCR i am getting the following
error "SCR cannot be configured on node YYY because it is not a member of
cluster XXX "

Please advise.

Thanks.
