I am planning to install an Exchange Server 2007 in new Forest My plan is to install CCR Server I have fiugured out following 1. I need 3 servers - One for Active Mailbox Role and one for Passive Mailbox Role 2.One Server Hub Transport and Client Access Server I have configured two identical servers with two nics in it. Have not installed anything or have not configured cluster yet for 160 users Two Quode processors - 6 gb of ram - 6 x 300gb SAS drives with Raid Controller HP smart array 400 Two Mirrored RAID 1 for O/S and log files Four Raid 5 for Data 3rd Server is plain server with 3 SAS drive Raid 5 for client access - I believe this one will only server OWA and rpc over HTTP clients + Blackberries Blackberry server will be sepearately installed on a 4 th computer Now my question is should I be installing Mailbox Servers first or should I be installing Client Access/Hub Transport Server first? Atleast I know and not a dumb that Hub Transport server needs to know the name of Mailbox Servers. So I kind of know the answer. I also have a question regarding dns settings and ssl certificates. My domain name for internal use is different than the external domain. Something like internal domain is microsoft.com and external dns name is microsoftcorp.com because microsoft.com was regitered before I registered my domain name. How can I have this accomplished. How many ssl certificates do I need. This is getting very confusing in Exchange 2007. autodiscover.mydomain.com, mail.mydoamin.com etc. And if I do need more than one certificate How can I install them or how to generate csrs for more than one virtual directories/webs? Currently my mail domain is hosted by a pop3 provider. I can not bring all of the users at the same time to new exchange server. I need to create a forward rule on pop server outside of my org and then forward emails to mydomain#2.com right? Another confusion. thanks
If you use Subject Alternate Name (SAN) on your certificate, you can get away with having only one: Webmail.company.com Autodiscover.company.com Mail.company.com Smtp.company.com Sip.company.com pop.company.com imap.company.com internal.company.com You might need all of these, but probably not for 160 users :) Talk to your ISP, they will tell what they will allow and what you will have to pay for. Most companies merge the data and stop the Pop3 all together. Cheers, Rodney R.
