Has anyone seen any problems with Exchange 2003 Cluster (A/A/P) failing over when TOE is enabled? Dell told me that it is Best Practice to ensure TOE is disabled on Exchange, Cluster and SQL servers. -Kevin
Not seen any failover issues in particular - assuming the server's on Windows Server 2003 SP2. Also take a look at KB 936594 - I would make sure the hotfix is installed and particular NICs (w/TOE enabled) tested adequately on a cluster in a lab. -- Bharat Suneja MVP - Exchange www.zenprise.com NEW blog location: exchangepedia.com/blog ---------------------------------------------- "BHarley99" wrote in message news:uUUuSoBGIHA.3376@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Has anyone seen any problems with Exchange 2003 Cluster (A/A/P) failing > over when TOE is enabled? > > Dell told me that it is Best Practice to ensure TOE is disabled on > Exchange, Cluster and SQL servers. > > > -Kevin >
What are you using iSCSI for? If its your Exchange/SQL data how can the cluster function without it? It is always a great idea to separate traffic and TOE also offload the SCSI commands. We are not using iSCSI...these are setup using fiber connected SAN. Any other ideas? "Rodney R. We are running SP2 for the OS and it doesn't appear that this patch has been applied. What I've done so far os disabled the chimney process: netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED I had also downloaded the latest Dell NIC drivers. Discussing this with the Dell tech, they said that we should never run TOE on an Exchange system. So running a netstat -t prior to disabling chimney you can see all the processes were using the resources of the NIC and after disabling it and running netstat -t you can now see that the processes are InHost. Unless there are more thoughts and recommendations, I'll wait to see if it happens again - normally it would happen 1 or twice a week. If it happens again - we'll apply the patch to see if that helps. Otherwise Dell told me that there is a TOE key that needs to be removed from inside the server. That is the only other thing I can think of.
