Re: HKLM \Cluster not avaiilable in one of the nodes
The current version is Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000. The service packs are
upto date.
Also, John I did try with some information I found in this article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224999
How to Restore the Clusdb File From the Chkxxx.tmp File on Only One Node
To restore the Clusdb file from the Chkxxx.tmp file on only one node, use
the following steps: 1. Using the Services tool in Control Panel, set the
Cluster service to Manual on the node where the service does not start.
2. Restart the node.
3. From the correctly functioning node, copy the Chkxxx.tmp file with
the most recent time and date stamp from the Mscs folder on the shared
quorum drive to a disk.
4. On the non-functioning node, rename the Clusdb file in the
%SystemRoot%\Cluster folder.
5. Copy the Chkxxx.tmp file from the disk to the %SystemRoot%\Cluster
folder.
6. Rename the Chkxxx.tmp file in the %SystemRoot%\Cluster folder to
Clusdb.
7. Using the Services tool in Control Panel, start the Cluster
service.
8. Verify that the service starts correctly and that you can failover
resources.
9. Set the Cluster service back to Automatic using the Services tool
in Control Panel.
I did see some other file names Clusdb_NR or _NCR something like this. But,
I renamed it to Clusdb with no extention. I tried starting it again but
could not, using the cluster administrator. So, I am sure since the cluster
hive in the registry itself has been removed, that i am unable to do
anything.
Now based on the information of Evicting a Node from the cluster and
rejoining it. I was wondering since I have Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 on
my old (good cluster) cluster server, is it possible for me to build this
new server with Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Exchange Server 2003 SP2. And
join the existing cluster which is Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000? or should
I build the Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 cluster to be successful?
Well, I am going through this information on how to do it. But looking at
the information below in this link, it looks that I need to have the same
version of OS, Exchange and Antivirus software etc...
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/guides/DROpsGuide/e1666054-539b-4135-9a6d-e63009a7926a.mspx?mfr=true
Kinda scared on whether anything might happen to the storage location of the
existing information store and other files and folders on the SAN.

Are you using a third party clustering product?

Re: HKLM \Cluster not avaiilable in one of the nodes
It sounds very much like corruption of the hive. If the registry entries
are not there you won't see the service. The endings on the clusdb file are
a bit strange, and it sounds like your attempt at recovery did not work.
I'd say it's time to call pss.
