I have a customer who has a stand alone Exchange 2003 Server. They wish to buld an Exchange cluster and move the mailboxes. Problem is they only purchased 1 server for the cluster and wish to use the existing server as part of the 2 node Active/Passive configuration. Both servers are identical hardware and will attach to an EMC SAN. All components are on the HCL. I am trying to determine the best method. Is it possible to install a cluster aware version of Exchange with only 1 node in the cluster, then move the mailboxes, rebuild the exisiting server and join the cluster? Other options would be to perform an alternate server restore of the databases. Please let me know your thoughts and if so, any documentation that can assist me. I am testing the single node cluster in my lab right now. Thank you. -- Michael Books Agilysys
You can indeed create a one node cluster, move the mailboxes to it, then nuke and pave the old server and join it to the cluster with Exchange. Cheers, Rodney R. This is what I was hoping for and initially thought. Still plan on some testing but your reply is much appreciated. Thank you!! -- Michael Books Agilysys "Rodney R.
