Exchange Cluster Backup W/ SAN's Storage
Hi,

I just installed an Exchange 2003 two node active / passive server attached
to an EMC shared SAN’s storage device where the mail-store and public folders
reside. I need to make sure the two cluster node server and SAN’s are being
backup properly. I have Veritas 10.0 backup software.

Can someone please tell me what is the best way to backup the servers and
the SAN’s. Is it just a matter of installing the Veritas Exchange and Remote
agents? What about the SAN’s?

Thanks,

BB

You don't need anything special just because the files are stored on the
SAN. Assuming all your LUNs are presented to a Windows box you can just back
them up as normal drives. Backup Exec does offer a SAN shared storage option
but you don't need this if you only have one backup server. You also have
the option of making backups of only a snapshot of the data that is
presented separately to the backup server, but again this is just an option
and not necessary in most circumstances.
