hello, we installed a 3-node exchange 2003 cluster i noticed that when i take a resource offline or when i do a failover most times the system attendant and/or the smtp virtual server hangs until the cluster takes it offline due to timeout. i also increased the time these services are allowed to take but no change. i searched the net and found others also having this problem but there was no solution posted. we are running exchange 2003 sp2 on windows server 2003 r2. thank´s a lot for your help! mfg Andreas Husch
hello, i played around a little bit with this now and it is the smtp virtual server that hang´s. today i was only one time able to take a resource offline without waiting for the cluster to terminate the process. brgds Andreas Husch "Deas" wrote: > hello, > > we installed a 3-node exchange 2003 cluster i noticed that when i take a > resource offline or when i do a failover most times the system attendant > and/or the smtp virtual server hangs until the cluster takes it offline due > to timeout. i also increased the time these services are allowed to take but > no change. > > i searched the net and found others also having this problem but there was > no solution posted. > > we are running exchange 2003 sp2 on windows server 2003 r2. > > thank´s a lot for your help! > > mfg Andreas Husch

Look in you system log for event ID 1005 with wording to the effect that the SMTP instance has failed an IS-Alive check. If this is so, look in the cluster log for an entry like: "f70:b9c.01/27[07:21:31.927](047592) ERR Microsoft Exchange SMTP Server Instance <SMTP Virtual Server Instance 1 ([name])>: [EXRES] EventLogging: SMTP Virtual Server Instance 1 ([name]): The IsAlive check for this resource failed. Error Code: 10061." The 10061 error code in this example indicated "connection refused". hello, i find this event 1005 in the application log but my cluster log does not show the message you noted below. why does this only happen when stopping the resource? brgds Andreas Husch "John Fullbright [MVP]" wrote: > Look in you system log for event ID 1005 with wording to the effect that the > SMTP instance has failed an IS-Alive check.
