Re: Exchange Contingency planning
By contingency do you mean Disaster Recovery? Do you need off-site
data protection? Are you considering data replication for continuos
data protection, or does a traditional backup strategy meet your RPO?

Beyond the solutions offered by Microsoft in the above mentioned
resource, there are a few third-party solutions that provide realtime
data replication across a WAN and automatic recovery of Exchange in the
DR site in the event of a site wide disaster. XOSoft, NSI, Neverfail
and SteelEye Technology are a few of the vendors you may want to
investigate.

Re: Exchange Contingency planning
hi,

thanks for replying.

I was planning to use HP Business Continuity Volume (BCV) software to
replication.
Do you have any idea of BCV whether it works with exchange?

pls guide.

we already have BCV working for oracle and do not want to invest in any
other..

Re: Exchange Contingency planning
HP's website seems to indicate they have some support for automated
recovery of
Exchange...http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/sanworks/evm/index.html

"The Storage Solutions Group continues to work closely with the EVM
team to provide the type of end-to-end solutions customers have learned
to expect from an industry leader. These Solution Guides describe
backup and recovery procedures using EVM with specific third party
applications, as well as presenting best practices to the user. The
Solution Guides available are:
Non-Disruptive Backup & Restore for Oracle 9i
Oracle 9i EVM v2 Data Warehouse
Oracle EVM 2.0 Compatibility Certification
Rapid Restore Solution for SQL Server 2000
Rapid Restore Solution for Exchange Server 2000
Non-disruptive Backup & Rapid Restore for SAP
Rapid Restore and Non-Disruptive Backup for mySAP.com (Windows 2000
/Oracle)"

I suppose you are replicating locally? THe BCV software seems to
support snapshots on a LAN, not continuous data protection across a WAN
which is needed for the highest level of RPO in the event of a complete
site loss.
