Exchange 2003 cluster to standalone
I have almost completed my migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. I
have one Exchange 2003 Server left, but it is there only because of a
third-party application. It is running on an active-passive Windows 2003
cluster.

I would like to change it from a clustered Exchange Virtual Server to a
standalone Exchange Server so that I can reclaim the space on the filer I no
longer need for this now empty server.

Is there any straightforward way of accomplishing this, or would I wind up
rebuilding the server and restoring the database to it? I want to keep the
same Exchange Server name.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Exchange 2003 cluster to standalone
- You'll need to setup Exchange on another server server and move mailboxes,
replicate PFs, etc.
- If you have 2 nodes in that cluster (you mentioned a single server in a
cluster... ), you can remove one node from the cluster and reuse it as a
standalone server.

Re: Exchange 2003 cluster to standalone
Thank you for your reply.

I had actually already evicted the passive node to leave me with a one-node
cluster like you suggested. I had just hoped to easily convery to standalone
in order to quit consuming filer space with this server while waiting on the
next version of the third-party app so that I can get rid of the server for
good. But, you have confirmed that I can't do that without going to a lot of
trouble.

Thank you anyway.
