Sometimes when I open a message or create new message in OWA on Exchange 2007 the window says it is in the âUnknown Zone (Mixed)â. I tried adding OWA to the Trusted Sites and the Local Intranet lists but that does not always help. I have seen the same behavior in more than one Exchange 2007 deployment and I am wondering if this is a bug, misconfig, or how it was designed to work?

Go to the Default Web Site of the server, and add that instead. That way, all VDirs on the server will be trusted. I actually have a wildcard entry for the domain (i.e. *.example.com) in the "Local Intranet" zone. I have tried swaping the entry into the "Trusted Sites" zone, but similar results occur. I have also tried using non-domain joined clients that have the default "out of the box" zone setup, they too get the same results. Have a look at the properties of the OWA directory in EMC. Make sure that the FQDN matches the server name you want to use when you go to OWA in your browser. Are you able to get IE to tell you what the various server names are? Perhaps if you double-click where it says 'Mixed Zones'?
