NDR's from Phantom users
I have a client who is on Exchange 2007. They were using delegates for some
of their users. Two users quit and were deleted from the server but not from
the calendar permissions on several people's mailboxes. I went around and
deleted the UID from the calendar permissions and thought this would resolve
my issue; however, I still get NDR's.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Re: NDR's from Phantom users
Remove the delegates by logging into the mailbox and using Outlook's
delegates setting, and check for and delete any alternate recipient in the
User's properties in Active Directory Users and Computers.

Thanks but, they were not in the ADUC. I checked.

Re: NDR's from Phantom users
Did you check for a delegate in Outlook?

If you use ADSI Edit and look at the user, is there a value in the
public-delegates attribute?

Re: NDR's from Phantom users
Small correction: The attribute name is publicDelegates. (The other one
applies to Exchange 5.5.)

Re: NDR's from Phantom users
Also you might try starting Outlook from the command line with a profile
that connects to the suspected mailbox using the /cleanrules switch.

Re: NDR's from Phantom users
Okay. I checked ADSI edit on every person that may be a delegate or that has
given delegation rights to these 2 phantom people and deleted users are not
listed.

When I run /cleanrules, what mailbox do I run that on? The two users no
longer have mailboxes so I can't run it on them.

Thank you!

Re: NDR's from Phantom users
That still looks like there's a delegate, rule, alternate recipient, or the
like attached to the user or mailbox.

Re: NDR's from Phantom users
Thanks for the help thus far. We are going to check each persons rules
again. I didn't think about alternate recipeints, but after checking the
server delivery options, i didn't see any. Do you think the conversoin to
Exchange 2007 from 2000 may have caused this?

I think the issue with there BEFORE the migration though.

Re: NDR's from Phantom users
The publicDelegates attribute is searchable. You could search for it being
present using LDP or some such. That will only show delegates, though, and
not rules or folder rights.
