We are experiencing an issue with Outlook in all of our 20 sites in the USA. Each client sees the same thing when populating email addresses in the To: address form. The address eventually does populate but it takes approximately 20-30 seconds to do so. The error is below. Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Microsoft Exchange Server (DC or GC on domain). Reviewing the logs on the servers provides multiple WINS error messages. I can't see why WINS would be causing this issue though. The Exchange servers name is not in the error message...but a domain controller or global catalog server name is. Any ideas would be very helpful.
I agree with you that the messages indicate that the workstations are having name resolution problems finding the domain controller. -- Ed Crowley MVP - Exchange "Protecting the world from PSTs and brick backups!" Also, what version & SP level of Exchange & Outlook? And do you have only one address list in your GAL?
We are not using Cached mode. We are running Exchange 2003 SP2. Our clients are running Outlook 2003 SP3. We only have the default global address list in the GAL. Thank you for the response. You mention "....all 20 of our sites" - if you've got a huge organization you ought to set up different address lists so your users don't browse the global address book and wait for, like, 20,000 names to show up. > > > "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]" > wrote in > message news:uK%23u%23cfiIHA.2268@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> Randy Smith wrote: >>> We are experiencing an issue with Outlook in all of our 20 sites in >>> the USA. I would go ahead and resolve the WINS issues. It appears your clients are having issue resolving GCs. Exchange and Outlook rely on netbios names and may not function properly if resolution fails. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837391/en-us "Randy Smith" wrote in message news:%23JH$MleiIHA.748@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > We are experiencing an issue with Outlook in all of our 20 sites in the > USA.
