Hello, I posted in the outlook newsgroup but this may be an exchange question. I have an exchange 2003 server with an outlook 2007 client connected via the lan. They are seeing grouping issues - some messages not listed when grouping. Is there a maximum messages you can have in your inbox (not including subfolders?) They have 68,500 :)

We also have users with huge mailboxes and in my research I've found that the size of the mailbox is not a detrimental to performance and the number or items in key default folders. This article is very enlightening: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2005/03/14/395229.aspx If you are going to have many items, then have your users organize them well with additional folders and subfolders. I know its easier said than done. At about the 5000 item level, there's not enough db cache to cache the 11 default views per folder. This means the views have to be created on the fly. Besides the annoying delay when you navigate a folder as the views are generated, the IO on the backend can easily imact all users, not just the user in question. You can shift the load to the client by using cached mode, and at least this eliminates the impact to other users, but for the user in question, the best advice is to organize the mail so that there are no more than 5000 items per folder. Thanks - I moved some a large group of e-mails including all of the e-mails from one of the senders that wouldn't group properly in the inbox to a subfolder - when I did a sort it could sort fine so there is probably a limit to how much Outlook 2007 can sort in one folder.
