Cannot Create Distribution Lists in Public Folders
Exchange 2003. Outlook 2003.

I have two Exchange/Outlook clients who has "Publishing Editor" privileges
to a shared contacts folder in public folders. When they try to create a new
distribution list, the distribution list form comes up and they are able to
add people to the list and give the list a name, but when they try to save
the distributiuon list they get the following error:

The item could not be saved to this folder. The folder has been deleted or
moved, or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in
the default folder for the item?

They can save the DL to their personal contacts folder, but just not to the
shared folder.

Incidentally, I am able to create a DL in the shared public folder (I am an
administrator) without a problem. Remember, they have been given "Publishing
Editor" permission to the shared contacts. So I do not understand why we are
having a problem.

Re: Cannot Create Distribution Lists in Public Folders
Open the properties of the public folder and
clear the Forms Cache (there's a button).

Also, you might want to consider removing the
"Publishing Editor" privileges and take them down to
just "Editor". The Publishing rights are to allow them
to create new sub folders that they will be owners of.
It doesn't sound like they need this. Editor will be
sufficient.

Re: Cannot Create Distribution Lists in Public Folders
Thanks Nikki. I will give that a try. I marked my initial post here to send
me an email notification when an answer was posted. I did not get that
notification. Else I would have thank you sooner.

Re: Cannot Create Distribution Lists in Public Folders
I have looked at the properties of the "Public Folders", "All Public
Folders", and "Good News Shared Contacts" (the shared folder to which my
original post referred). None of them have any button under any properties
tab that indicates that it clears the forms cache. Could you be more
specific about where I am to look? Thanks.

Re: Cannot Create Distribution Lists in Public Folders
Never mind. I found it by logging in as the administrator (owner) of the
folder. Hope this clears the problem with the DL creation. Will notify.

Re: Cannot Create Distribution Lists in Public Folders
Nikki:

After "clearing the cache" the problem has not gone away. The owner of the
public folder "Good News Shared Contacts" cannot even create a DL. When I am
logged in under another administrator account (not Administrator) I am able
to create a DL in the shared folder, but it is only visible by me. Any other
ideas?

Re: Cannot Create Distribution Lists in Public Folders
Also, the DLs that already exist may be edited by those who have editor
privileges. It is just that NO ONE can create a new DL in the shared
contacts folder including Administrator (ecept me and it is only visible to
me).

The Solution!!!
Under the "Forms" tab of the properties of the shared folder (make sure you
are accessing the properties as the owner opf the folder) I needed to select
"Any Form" under the section "Allow these forms in this folder." It was set
to allow just one specific form (which we designed for our contacts). Hence,
the form for a DL was not being allowed. Now it works! Thanks.

Re: The Solution!!!
Wow, nice troubleshooting! I was going to ask if
you have a custom form. :)
