I have an environment with 2 exchange servers in different locations that are both version 2003 SP2. The main Exchange server has Envelope Journaling enabled and messages are being archived out of the journal mailbox using IBM CommonStore for Exchange (CSX). The second server is not configured for journaling at this time. Some messages are accumulating in the main Journal mailbox and CSX is giving an error that the property PR_CONTENT_IDENTIFIER is not set. This property should exist and be set for a valid journal message. When I open the Journal mailbox in Outlook, I see these errant messages much like a copy of the original message. The true Envelope Journal messages only display recipient information and the original message can be referenced like an attachment to the envelope information as I expect. My issue is understanding why the main server's journal mailbox is receiving some messages that are not in the envelope journal format and what I can do to resolve this issue. From the messages I have reviewed, most errant messages appear to be created by users on the second Exchange server. I would expect messages that originate from the second server and have a recipient on the main server would be part of the envelope journal process at the time the message arrives at the main server. It looks like some of the messages are from a user on the second server to another user on the second server. A message that only involves users on the second server would not touch the main server and not be part of the envelope journal message process that is only on the main server. Am I wrong to think that the Journaling process is turned on at a message store level? I would not think that moving a user from the main server to the second server would cause an issue like this or that any message forwarding or delegate access could be the cause either. Any thoughts or ideas as appreciated. Thanks.
